Clinical Approach
At HumanKind, we do not believe in taking a cookie-cutter approach to treatment. We weave various psychological theories into our work and tailor therapy to your individual needs and presenting concerns. We believe that human beings are holistic and our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual functioning are richly interconnected.
It's important that you and your clinician are a good match in terms of personality and style. We work hard to build trusting, collaborative relationships with each of our clients. Therapy can be hard work and isn't always fun, but together we can navigate it in a meaningful way if we have mutual respect for one another and trust in the process.
If your clinician ever misses the mark or says or does something that doesn't land well with you (which is likely, since we're all just human being!), please let us know. We want to work through any misunderstandings and make sure you feel cared for and understood. A positive relationship between client and therapist can be healing in and of itself!
We use many theories to guide our practice, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Adlerian Psychology, Feminist Theory, Existential Psychology, and Family Systems theory.
We regularly consult the research to ensure that we are providing care from the most up-to-date and well-informed perspective. We're committed to lifelong learning, and know that we will always have more growing to do, both as clinicians and human beings!
Dr. Paula and Dr. Jenny are both Certified Intuitive Eating Counselors. Dr. Paula is an approved facilitator for Beauty Redefined's Body Image resilience Program, and is trained and certified in the Chronic Pain Self-Management Program (CDSMP), Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Mindfulness Meditation. Our staff has a variety of specialized skills training and diverse clinical interests.

We're members of several professional organizations that allow educational and consultation opportunities to continue learning and growing in our practice, including the American Psychological Association (APA), the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS), and the Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH).
We are deeply committed to our work and passionate about helping you find greater fulfillment and joy in life with our clinical sessions.
